"Please stop fighting, cuties!" wood diorama behind-the-scenes pics

Image
Here are some process pictures of this piece I made for an Italian Horror themed group art show. It was originally gonna be a full shark body with a zombie riding it, but I didn't have enough time to do all of that so I adjusted as I went! I also gave up on the shark holding the severed arm in its mouth because it crowded out the lil zombie head too much. I like where it all landed though. What do you think?

"Please stop fighting, cuties!" wood diorama for Crimson Shadows Italian Horror Cinema art exhibition at Q Pop

"Please stop fighting, cuties!" is the name of my piece for Q Pop's Crimson Shadows Italian Horror Cinema art exhibition. I chose a scene from Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2 (aka  Zombie here in the states) in which a zombie fights a shark?? Umm have I mentioned how much I love Italian horror movies before? This diorama turned out exactly as I had hoped it would. Small and good! This exhibition opens on Saturday, October 25th with a reception from 7-9pm. Head over to Q Pop to take a peek at the nifty art!

"Scary Friend" wood sculpture behind-the-scenes pics

Lookit! I remembered to take some WIP shots of the wooden sculpture I made for Giant Robot's Yokai Show. I forgot to take a picture of the piece right after it was covered in gesso, but otherwise this is a good run through of the stages this went through to become a finished piece. Pretty exciting stuff, eh?

"Scary Friend" wood sculpture for Yokai Show at Giant Robot

"Scary Friend" is my piece for Giant Robot's Yokai Show group art exhibition. It's based on the radical kasa-obake yokai. I was initially worried about painting it in these colors because I didn't want anyone to think of the 1990s Charlotte Hornets, but my wife didn't even know what I was talking about so I figured nobody else would care either. The show opens on Saturday, October 18th but here are some other very good pictures my wife took to tide you over until then :->

"Spooky Motorist" wood toys

Image
Spooky Motorists are my latest series of tiny Capsule Castaways wood toys. As I mentioned in my previous post, I recently got a capsule machine to dispense these toys so you don't get to pick which one you get but I'm going to try and keep making variations of these little dudes so hopefully everyone who wants one will get a crack at it, you know?

At long last, Capsule Castaways get a capsule machine!

After years of going back and forth, I finally decided to purchase an old gumball machine for my capsule toys. This means that folks don't get to pick exactly which toy they want anymore when it comes to Capsule Castaways but to sweeten the deal going forward, I plan on tossing in special tiny toys among the other regular series that I make. Here are some examples of a few special toys I made for upcoming events!
